hello all,
have some experience with hardware and servers, but new to buying NICs here and just now finding out about generics and counterfeits and etc. The first posts on this thread aren't up to date, right? is there a list somewhere of recommended NIC hardware? I'm looking for a dual or quad port intel NIC to put in a Dell Optiplex but hoping to avoid something that will fail in the long term as i'd like to use this for OPNsense
Usually, the unpopular Intel OEM brands will have much less counterfeits, like the Intel OEMed Cisco, Fujitsu, Supermicro, etc. brands.
If the installation method is bare metal, not using hypervisors, personally I will recommend i340-t4 OEMs, less counterfeits than i350-t4 which can do SR-IOV.

<-- Dead on. Even the Dells and HPs have fakes now so can't trust those 100%, even from recyclers. :(

For the famous NICs, usually the win server drivers are compatible with the windows with the same primary version number. So I think the win server 2022 drivers have a large possibility to be compatible with win 10.

Link is not working at the moment, not sure if it's temporary or ?
Its probably the firewall on my web server, I tend to block a lot of non US IP addresses. I'll drop the firewall for a few days. Sorry about that.

No problem, thanks.
I've managed to download and extract. Since there is no instalation exe I guess I can only try to install it via device manager. But when I give file location with 4 .sys files it gives me various devices but it seems none of it work when I install.

As previously said, you cant even trust recyclers who have taken these from working servers. Who/what can we trust?

I mean i have spend few days looking for i350-T4 variants. V2 variants are 100€+ and i350-T4s go anywhere from 30€ to 90€. And you have no idea which one is fake and which one is genuine. o_O

That's true but it's all probabilities. The likelihood of a datacenter server that has was ordered factory configured and pretty much set up and left on for the last 3-5yrs before being pulled out and sent to a recycler having a fake is far less than a small business that bought one barebones and built it up over time using parts from ebay.

But even recyclers have figured out that these can be quick profits so they're even selling the fakes now ime. Who to trust is the right question indeed. Intel doesn't care that this is going on either.

Luckily in the EU (to my understanding) sellers have to support what they sell, so if there is a problem it's a hassle for them. Here in the US, it's pump and dump and run with the money with one finger up on each hand. Everything here is slowly turning into a third world bazaar imo along with all the shady nonsense that comes with those places.

Scored what I think is a genuine HP NC364T after seeing a lot of fakes of the Intel model. The problem of fakes is still around years later unfortunately. :(

So, there are no 10Gbit SFP+ cards with at least PCIe 3.0? Really, I'm just going down to 2.5Gbit I can't get much over 300MB/s from the Synology anyway and it is using like 60 watts on my battery vs 9.5 max on the 2.5Gb switch! I can run an extra half a day without power with that difference.

Mellanox 4x is a 10/25gb card that is PCIe 3.0

It looks like this recycle vendor listed the Cisco UCSC-PCIE-IRJ45 V01(PN: 74-10521-01 A0) on the NIC's pictures as Intel i350-AM4 Card.

Note: I did know there are many listings of this model with much lower prices, but this is the first ebay page I saw which considered it is an i350-AM4 card.
