I saw the Mikrotik NetMetal Outdoor AP thread from a few weeks back (thanx to the nifty similar threads feature)

Any experience with these? I mean compared to the Ubiqiti AC APs they are like 1/2 the cost and can run outdoors.

But I'm not going to go this route if I cannot roam from one AP to the other. Doesn't make a lick of sense to not get this feature.

I've heard RouterOS has most of what you'd want from router/ switching but for AP is it suitable? Too bad they don't have an online demo.

I personally have the RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN currently in production at my parents house. I've yet to encounter any problems beyond my brothers ~2009 mac book not agreeing with the WPA2 with AES had to enable TKIP to keep him happy.

As to how this stacks up against the UAP-AC AP I cant offer any insight beyond looking at the available specs ofr the NetMetal 5 it looks like external antenna(s) are required compared to the UAP-AC that has everything self contained. I could be wrong, but i cant dig up any FFC Certs to look at to see the pictures of the internals

I didn't think mikrotik had the same functionality. I could be 100% wrong though.

Mikrotik wireless products, especially the outdoor products, just work.

They aren't dual band and most aren't 802.11AC but they just work. For a basic outdoor WAP get a GrooveA 52HPn. Comes with a 2.4GHz antenna. The device is capable of transmitting in EITHER 2.4GHz or 5.8GHz but not both simultaneously.
