Hey everyone,

I am trying to setup a new dedicated server I'm renting from Velia, but I am facing some problems. The first time I tried installing windows server 2022 through the IPMI, after what I thought was a successful installation, I noticed that didn't have access to internet. I tried some things I found online, like installing some drivers (the latest Virtio build), but when I tried to update the drivers for my ethernet adapter it just said no compatible drivers have been found. I saw some tutorials that load these drivers during the installation, so I reinstalled and tried to add these drivers, but they only showed up in the hidden drivers (which are not compatible). I am at my wits end here, I don't have that much experience with servers and there is little information to be found online. Also, Velia support doesnt want to help, they can only help if I buy an add-on of windows for 50 euros per month which I find ridiculous. I have installed servers from other providers before and never had any issues like these. If you can help me out, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

These are my server's specs (no clue if that's important)
- AMD Ryzen 9 7950X 16-Core 4500 mhz
- 128 GB DDR5 RAM
- 2x 960 GB NVMe SSD

Do you know what virtualization environment your provider is using?

In Device Manager, find the ? Unrecognized/Other device and take a look at it's Hardware ID. Can you post a screenshot?

EDIT: Just saw you said it's a dedicated server. So you're on baremetal? You don't need Virtio drivers, you need NIC drivers... Can you see what motherboard is in the system? Open System Information and take a look at the reported SKU?

Uhm I believe baremetal and dedicated mean the same correct? If so, yeah I'm on baremetal hahaha. NIC drivers? Hmm, that's strange I thought I remembered I did use virtio before on dedicated servers, maybe I'm wrong though. Here you can see my motherboard. Thanks for the help so far by the way! :D

About the question before that, I am not sure where to find the hardware IDs, but I can show you this at least:1717113431405.png

Does this help?

That motherboard doesn't have a built in network card (excluding the IPMI interface). So you have 2 options - either ask your hosting service what model network card they installed (and its probably an odd ball one since Server 2022 didn't put up the driver out of the box), or look up the device id in Device manager and post it here so we can figure out what the proper drivers are. 4 Ways to Check the Hardware IDs of Your Devices on Windows

Which Server 2022 image did you use? Can you paste the full filename here? Curious which rev you used -- and therefore which drivers are missing.

That explains the driver issue, its an old 1gb Broadcom network card. Broadcom's driver support blows.

Oh god hahaha, hmm what should I do now I wonder, is there still a way to get this up and running or should I ask them to install a different network card?

Assuming the server has no network, you'll have to shove that into an ISO or something so you can mount it via IPMI -- do you know how to do that?

Maybe grab The Official ImgBurn Website and use it to create an ISO. Drag in the EXE/ZIP and it will produce an ISO file. Then you can mount that with the IPMI interface and it will show up in the DVDROM drive on the server. (I'm assuming you're using Windows, but if you're not, let me know.)
