Excellent condition but without any boxes. I have this great piece of kit but it is an overkill for me plus I am migrating everything to rack mount. However in order to sell it I need to purchase new drives first to move the data over. I would do that but I need some reassurance that there is interest in the unit. I would be looking for EUR 1,000 + shipping, EU only.

Hate to rain on the parade, but I don't think you'll get the interest you want. The product line is EOL/dead, and even two years ago when it was still on life support a used one was half that price (ref: ReadyNAS 628).
If this is the 628x, it still packs quite a punch as a nas even if eol:

Got it. Looks like you have 2/4 and 4/6 bay ReadyNas units too. Are those on OS6 like the 628 or are they still on OS4?
Nice! I have an Ultra 6, a Pioneer Pro, an NV+ and that's it so far. I've kept them all on OS4 since all I need is a plain nas and they work well in that capacity. Your 628 is really a powerhouse I didn't even know about until I read the storagereview review--ability to saturate 20Gb using HDDs--impressive....most impressive...
They are great pieces of kit. The 628x is really a nice machine, it has a Xeon-D 1521, 10g interfaces, 8 bays, small footprint, it can definitely go places. Like all Netgear hardware, it is also build like a tank. I also happen to like the software and X-Raid is a nice feature. I think it is actually so good it is a bit of a shame having it sitting there only sharing some files. I was a bit sad when Netgear abandoned the line, particularly if you think that they (and Infrant, the company they bought mid/late 2000s) kickstarted this NAS at home trend.
Yeah, these are built like nothing else. I've got a lot of units from synology and qnap as well, but the hardware on the netgear is enterprise quality solid. In fact, they even feel more beefy than some of my servers drive bays.
I actually like that these are abandoned and still perform very well. Abandoned stuff is rarely targeted, even though this doesn't matter since I keep all my nas units locked down to the lan only.

If it ever gets close to the trash bin, I will want to rescue it because I could give it a good home.
Lol it is not going to go anywhere near the trash bin for years to come. I would just rather put the disks on the rack and sell the unit.
