$449 - Supermicro 1019P-WTR - Backplane has 2 U.2 connectors, so you could easily use NVMe drives in the front bays.
It needs an AOC for the U.2, right? Would you be able to provide what sorta connection the backplane has for the cabling? Is it the square or the flat (occulink) connection?

Yes, you would need one for that. It's SFF-8643 on the backplane (white connectors at the bottom of my photo). Given there are 3 PCIe slots, even with an AOC, still 2 left for other things if you need it.
