I will update when the drives are sold (packed up and shipped out). I'm getting the SMART info off the last five drives now.
Well, since you PMed me before you even made this thread alerting me that you listed them for sale... and then I said I'd take 2.

Why are you NOT considering my 2 sold? or providing me payment information?

You were not the only person who I PM'd. I also had a line of conversation open with the TubaMT. I PM'd both of you, and he responded first. Looks like you missed it by 3 hours. (6:40 vs. 9:22)

I don't mind I missed it but it's very weird how you've gone about this process of selling things.

You basically offered your item to lot of people in private and then posted a public thread. And then you tell us they were all sold??? Why even make the thread?

Thanks for updating me but in the future I'd appreciate a PM reply and me not having to chase you down in a thread ;) to find out the status...

I agree. In the future, I will do it differently. This whole thing went sideways pretty quickly. My first thread read like an ad, my second one got mixed up with PMs, and the items sold within minutes of my post. Then I realized that I misrepresented the drives, and had to re-test them. I apologize to anyone caught up in this mess.

That's definitely a good point. I could have handled this a lot better. Sorry about that!

Completely understandable, and no hard feelings!

I like to be open, and up front but often it comes off as abrasive (which I can be), so I apologize if it seemed rude :)

Sorry about that @T_Minus :/ I probably contributed to some of the miscommunication as well :/ I PMed @TeeJayHoward earlier yesterday and then PM'ed him again as well as replying to this thread publicly. I apologize for the mix up!

Not the most relevant response, and I apologize ahead of time, but I never had good luck with the ST3000DM001.

I ran 6 of them in a RAID10 and had 3 of them fail within 9 months. This is right in line with Backblaze's results, and I've since switched to the WD Red 3TB (currently running 8 of them in a RAID10), which wasn't out when I initially built my server.

I'm curious to know if the buyer is planning to use or resell them.

I looked for a way to do this, but couldn't find one. Is this something only a mod can do, or did I just miss the right button to edit the title?
When scrolling to your first post you should see a button called thread tools . There you should be able to edit the title

My only option is to add a poll. I can't edit the title. Looks like a kind moderator took care of it for me, though!

Backblaze's study is a great resource but it also points out the bathtub curve that most drives die out within the first few months to a year and then after that last a bit longer. Most of these drives would be in the part of the curve that they won't die out for a little while. Even if 50% of the drives survive, like Backblaze suggests in one of their blog posts, I still will have a lot of space to use.

I plan to use most of these for media that will be backed up as well but also for some cryptocurrencies. There's something called Maidsafecoin, Storj coin, and Burst coin that use spare computer resources, including storage space to create coins or be paid in coins. I'm into cryptos so it could be fun to use the extra storage space for it.

Interesting info on the crypto stuff, hadn't heard of that hardware being used.
