I was updating the bios on one of my servers at work last Friday. Its a system based on H11DSU-iN. I'm not sure what the hell happened, but the system does not POST now. I still have access via the IPMI. When I try to reflash it via IPMI, its bombing out on me. Any suggestions or ways to force it ?

Thanks

I was flashing the system via IPMI. It said it completed, and on reboot the system refused to POST. I'll dig up a screen shot of what the IPMI is saying now when I attempt to reflash it in a bit.

Sorry for the delay, work got busy. I still had the folder of the new bios, and I think I know what happened. The motherboard originally had bios 2.5 on it, so I naturally assumed (and wrongly so) that it was a version 2 board. Turns out when I physically checked it today, it is a verison 1 board. How it it had 2.5 on it prior to the flash, I have no clue.

So damnit, I pushed the wrong bios version and the stupid IPMI didn't warn me it was the wrong version. I'll see if I can get the exact error message when I try to push 1.3 bios tomorrow.

are you running Naples or Rome ?
check what size is the BIOS chip its a SOP8, maybe its it modifed.

25L128xx or 25Q128 = 16MB
25L256xx or 25Q256 = 32MB

Its a Naples. I'll double check the server tomorrow when I'm at the data center tomorrow and see what bios chip it has.

ok, if it is 16MB chip some has taken the first half of the Rev.2.10 BIOS 2.5 and flashed to the board.
if it is 32mb chip the board was upgraded, but in that case the BIOS should have worked.
