Does most c206 dual socket mobo support 8-channel DDR3?

Well, I know one E5-26xx v2 only support 4 memory channels.

However, the S2600CP2 mobo (dual socket) from Intel claims it supports at most 8 channels (Intel® Server Board S2600CP2 Product Specifications)

So my question is: Does that mean most Supermicro mobo (such as X9DRi-LN4F+ Supermicro | Products | Motherboards | Xeon® Boards | X9DRi-LN4F+) also 8 memory channels? or it depends?

Yes, they will support quad channel per CPU. The SM board will allow you to do three DIMMs per channel at reduced speeds. Check out the tables on pages 2-13 through 2-15 in the manual.

4 in each socket, 2 sockets = 8 memory channels total. As @cactus points out in the E5 generation you could do up to 3 dimms per channel

If a dual-socket C602 board has at least 8 DIMM slots, it supports 2x4 memory channels. No exceptions. I can not even recall a dual-socket LGA2011 board with less than 8 Dimm slots.

E5-2400 was 3 channel
