Just wanted to check as Im setting up my machine to get into the STH pool but didn't know if using a public node presented any risks/issues.

Thanks!

+1 looking to set mine up this weekend as well.
This may be my fault.

I have a node that I run behind a firewall that I setup. The block chain is fairly large and takes quite some time to sync. I decided to just do it myself since I have spare DC capacity.

Before I used my own I used a public node.

how about opening up STH public node so STH miner can use it to check their wallet ??
I think alot more people will feel more comfortable using remote node with great reputation.

I am thinking about adding a crypto-pool infrastructure alongside STH infrastructure in a colo. Give it its own firewall, IP addresses, perhaps even rack. If/ when that happens I may do it. I think there are some pretty reputable public servers already though.
