Hi,

a R7525 currently has the following motherboard installed: 05Y13N.

I've been looking at replacement options as spare parts and I can't find it anywhere. What I can find however are these types, mostly from Chinese sellers:

PYVT1 74H08 YHMCJ

Can anyone tell me what the differences are and if they are all interchangeable, or if certain components, such as risers and connectors won't fit anymore if I get the wrong model?

My uninformed analysis is that they did a major revision when the shortages kicked into high gear to work around one or more specific components that were getting hard to source. All major connectors are supposedly in the same places, as the manual does not differentiate different motherboard models.

@RolloZ170: Thanks for that list! Do you perhaps know what those actually mean?

On a chinese site I just found even more types:

590KW H3K7P 24PW1 90YMM

The one I have was among them. It is an offer for a mainboard and all types named here in this thread, except for 74H08, were listed.

@ericloewe: Okay, then that should mean they are all compatible, but those are for sure a lot of types/revisions if all valid, which is why I asked in the first place.

What I am aware of is that, at time of ordering in 2022, V2 and V3 mainboard versions were both available in the store selector, but only those two.

This seems - at the moment - the complete list I could find:

So they seem to differ based on whether MLK, WMX and V2/V3 are present (no V3 variant listed here, but they must exist as well). But I don't know what those mean.

EDIT:

I haven't been able to find any part number for the V3 mainboard, but it is currently listed in the shop.

  • PowerEdge R7525 Hauptplatine, mit 2 x 1Gb Onboard LOM,MLK V3

Also someone asked what the difference is between the V2 and V3 version and got an answer from Dell:

Hi, I'm guessing no difference, just the revision difference. If you need a part replace going forward, V3 will be recieved most likely.
EDIT2:

There is also another type in the shop:

  • PowerEdge R7525 Motherboard, with 2 x 1Gb Onboard LOM (BCM5720)MLK V5
So it seems we are up to 9 different types. How can it be that they are all "just" revisions?

first we can expect the factory BIOS as a difference, gen support with stock BIOS i.e.
and Dell likes to remove some VRM power stages for 1U P/N
maybe a P/N for OEM high TDP SKUs...

If they change the part number every time they replace something larger than a capacitor, they could easily get to nine revisions. Or different manufacturers doing the same board. The Gen 15 Epyc servers have been on the market since 2019, that's a long time normally and 2019 to 2024 is a tremendously long time when trying to manufacture something as complex as a server motherboard.
