Edit: Okay, time for an update. I've received the goods, and it's all tested and working. I've updated the post with specifics.

(This is UK-based, so most likely looking for a UK buyer. I imagine overseas shipping would be prohibitively expensive)

Hi all,
I recently picked up two Dell T7600 workstations from an outlet reseller. I'm keeping one, and I've poached the Xeons out of the other to put in my custom-build workstation.

So - I've got a fully working T7600 barebones system to sell (just add CPUs), plus a bunch of assorted kit that can be included if required, all effectively-brand-new, and the system is covered by a transferable 3-year next-business-day warranty (obviously excluding whatever CPUs you would add)

I won't be charging Dell premiums obviously - I've tried to work out some fair prices, based on standard component costs.

  • Dell T7600 Chassis, with Dell easy-swap-type 1300W PSU (80 Plus Gold).
  • Dell custom dual-Xeon S2011 motherboard, and 16GB (4x4GB) 1600MHz ECC/Registered RAM.
  • Will include the 2x official Dell heatsinks/fans, and Dell keyboard and mouse. (If required)
  • nVidia Quadro NVS 300 graphics card - 512MB
  • Slim DVD-RW optical drive
I reckon £800 would be a great price for this base configuration. You'll just need to add Xeons.

Additionally, I have these components which can be included:
Hard Drives
  • 5x Hitachi HUC106060CSS600 600GB 10k SAS hard drives - I've tested these, and they work fine on an Intel (non-Dell) controller too - I'd probably aim to get ~£180-190 each for them seperately, but if you want all five included, I'd go for £150 each (£750 total)
  • 2x Seagate ST1000DM003 1TB 7.2k SATA hard drives - Looks like they go for around £50 new, so I'd say £40 each.
Graphics Card
  • nVidia Quadro 2000 - 1GB - I reckon £150 would be a fair price to upgrade from the NVS 300
Raid/HBA
  • Dell PERC H310 - LSI SAS 2008-based host adapter, with 2x internal SAS connectors (8 ports) - This is what the 5x SAS drives came attached to, so I presume you'd need this to host them, £75 seems reasonable to me.
Windows
  • Windows 7 Professional 64bit OEM edition. A license comes attached to the workstation - I reckon £60 would be reasonable, as it appears to sell for no less than £90 bought seperately. If you'd prefer to supply your own OS, I'll just remove the license label.

I'll work out a suitable courier and payment method to suit, if anyone is interested.
It's available for immediate dispatch, give or take a day depending on how much re-configuring is required.

I'll probably end up going to eBay with it if I can't sell it anywhere else, but I'd really like to avoid lining their pockets with fees!
Post questions, or feel free to PM me.

The warranty still applies and is transferable. Obviously if you swap the CPUs then the new CPUs aren't covered but everything else pucrhased from Dell is.

I just picked up my own T7600 refurb and this is definitely a great deal for a barebones. GLWTS.

If you buy the CPUs from Dell or if you install Dell "branded" CPUs (kinda like the Dell "branded" Seagate HDDs) then the T7600 system warranty still applies

Just a shame I can't somehow split the warranty and cover the CPUs I take out as well. I'm not sure where I stand on Intel warranty - the reseller seemed to think the manufacturer warranty started and ended with Dell, and that it would only cover individual components so long as they were installed in the original system they supplied. Maybe I'd better look into some kind of insurance :p

Still, it should carry over fine for whoever buys the system.

Update for anyone who may be interested - I should be receiving it by Friday this week. I'll post up better specifics in the original post at that point.

For what it's worth, in 18 years I've never had a defective CPU of any kind and I've been through tonnes of them. I really wouldn't lose any sleep over that.

True, neither have I.
(...well, except that one Athlon Thunderbird many years ago, when I wondered how quickly a chip heats up without a heatsink mounted. Hey, we all make a few mistakes before we stop being idiots :p)

I'm just a tad apprehensive considering how much an E5-2687W costs :p

I hear ya. If you buy them with the box intel warranties them for 3 years. The OEM ones I think have 90 days (maybe not anymore?). I got extremely lucky and got some nice ones on eBay for next to nothing. But I really wouldn't worry much about it. Just remember to run them with heatsinks and you'll be fine ;-)

No more warranty on OEM CPUs

btw, that was a smokin deal on those 2687's
The same seller had another set for sale, he was asking for double what you paid

The crazy thing is, I woke up early Saturday morning and saw that he had just listed two for $1500. I read far enough to see they weren't ES and I BiN before anyone else got wise. Almost instantly I realize that none of his text was pluralized - I assumed two because he had two pictured! My stomach starts churning at what I had done. I email the guy asking if it was two or one and he answers "one - but for $300 more you can have both". Suffice it to say I was super stoked. This guy must have run out of his house to the USPS because I got them monday. Terrific seller.

You need to be jealousy specific?
> Is it T7600 jealousy
> Is it E5-2687w jealousy

Either way blame renderfarmer, it's his fault

Bumping the thread - I've received the system, and tested it all. Everything is in new condition, works perfectly, and the warranty is easily transferable.

Also, holy crap awedio... you could run The Matrix with that! :p
