Lol. Anyone know where I could get a compatible laptop? Pretty sure mine is not. But it would be really cool to have a laptop that is compatible...

As far as I know, these will only work with Cisco Nexus 2k, 5k, or 7k and even then, only to extend fabric.
That's why they're so cheap.
I tested one on a Mikrotik switch. It got detected but the switch did not want to link up with anything.

while not built into a laptop you can connect through a TB adapter. roughly $182 = tax through AMZ (US).

using one right now on a MBP.

i bought a few and use them with a nicgiga switch and some other off brand one works fine for me.
Both ends are these so not sure if that made the difference.
That could just be it. I only had 1 FET, and I'm not even sure where I got it from. I was scratching my head while trying to figure out why the switch wasn't working until I swapped the sfp out.
Just remember these are supposed to be rated for 100 meters max.

Have personal experience with these in a Cisco Nexus / Fabric Extender environment. These will only work for connections between an upstream Nexus (5K, 6K, for example) and a Nexus 22xx-series fabric extender. These cannot be used in a regular port to device connection. In those cases, the SFP-10G-SR is required.

But you can indeed use a pair of those together.
I guess if you're trying for rock bottom cheap configuration and do not care about compatibility and distance limit it could be an option...
But considering cost of SFP+ ports and fiber I'd splurge for a pair of 10GBASE-SR transceivers at $5 ea ;-)

It's very unSTHy to resist getting a whole bag of them for just a few bucks
Bought a few to run some tests on different devices and switches to see how well they work.
I have a feeling that only cisco devices will refuse to work with these outside their intended use. I'm willing to bet that once we provide more details about them, the STH Effect will start to kick in.

Did anyone order and get theirs? Did they provide a tracking number?
Mine has not arrived yet. It says it has been shipped, but there is no tracking number.
