Why aren't there stacks of 1U M.2 PCIe riser cards out there?

Think about all the 1U server cases with empty PCIe slots because you can only have 1 riser card. If these existed you'd be able to add stacks of NVMe drives to 1U servers easily.

Most M.2 devices has no battery backup which is rather essential for 24/7 operation as well as no hotswap capability. U.2 has hotswap and an AIC with battery backup is a much wiser and easier choice.

This might be small enough if you lose the bracket
Amazon.com: StarTech.com M.2 Adapter – x4 PCIe 3.0 NVMe – Low Profile and Full Profile – SSD PCIE M.2 Adapter – M2 SSD – PCI Express SSD: Computers & Accessories

Also take 22110, which is the size enterprise m.2 with PLP are usually in.
I've used a Delock adapter with a 950 pro in a dell c6220 node. Works good but again, no battery backup and especially for the samsung ones, not the highest sustained performance. :)

I found a cheap M.2 adapter from taobao.com (P16NM-01自卡式 SSD固态硬盘 扩展卡,PCI-E 3.0 SSD (M.2)). I can easily put them into my C6220 II 1U Blade server. See the picture below.

Compare to Amfeltec's (http://amfeltec.com/products/pci-express-gen-3-carrier-board-for-m-2-ssd-module/), it only support size 2280 and need a x16 slot. Those issues are not a problem in C6220 II, I have two free PCIe x16 slots and actually I could plug in 22110 M.2 SSD into the adapter with some Scotch tape.

Are you planning to order these? If so, let me know and perhaps you could add a few more (say 4-5) for me?
I ping seller today and she said they will have that adapter in stock early next week. But unfortunately they don't offer international shipping. If you don't mind, I could order some and bring them to states when I visit there (probably this Oct).

Please be informed that sending package from China to US is expensive (especially compare to the cost of the adapter itself). Even worse, it may stuck in China customs for weeks or even month due to no official invoice.

I wonder how all of the other ebay sellers get items here so inexpensively. Perhaps we can get an example invoice/ mailing.

I will ask a friend about mailing. But I did hear that it's difficult or expensive for some people to send items easily outside China. They are strict about bringing goods in and out, e.g. No import of used electronic goods (stops dumping) (always ways around anything but use a broker and don't get your own name dirty)

Not something I have had to deal with as I know a lot of people going to and from China who can bring for me if it's not myself traveling.

For small stuff I would expect volume + patience is what makes it cheap for ebay sellers. Buy a few hundred / thousand of whatever and get it added to a container by a shipper and sent over.
I buy a lot of items and get them shipped via DHL but they key to getting thru customs is an invoice that looks legit. DHL will tack on the import fees when it gets to the USA and just ding your account for them if sent that way which usually works out well.

I would be game for a few if you do an order however.

Maybe they're not based out of the free economic zone? I think that only encompasses Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou.

I shared my feedbacks (Support 2280 and 22110, and compatible with x4, x8 and x16 PCI e slot) with the reseller. She said she will connect me with manufacturer directly. When I had chance to meet with somebody from manufacturer in person, I would check with them if they could ship to states use example invoice. @Patrick

Does it have a place to attach it to the slot cover to ensure you can screw it down to mak sure the card does not come out ?
