Interesting...

And that is why I need to find the manuals... ;)

I can't seem get it to do much.. Even 'copy running-config startup-config' gives me errors about not being available in logical-chassis mode.

Knowing the above, I'll try again just doing some configurations like ip address and hope that the changes save themselves..

The copy command is no longer necessary in logical chassis mode.

You can register at Extreme to get a free account and I recall you can download documentation and select older firmware.

need help backing running-config on VDX6740T

I need to backup the running-config so I can upgrade the firmware on it. But I can't seem to get it to either do it from the USB (non-brocade drive) or FTP. I was able to copy it over to the flash:// but I am not sure if that get destroyed during firmware flash.
I tried using this to make the USB
Q A: How to restore a formatted Brocade USB for VDX use | Extreme Portal (force.com)Q A: How to perform netinstall on VDX 6740 and 6940 via USB? | Extreme Portal (force.com)
Every time I do a 'usb on' it say it can't find it
then I tried setting up a FTP server but that didn't work either
ftp server: 10.0.254.100/24
vdx management ip: 10.0.254.3/24
I tried connected to the Management port or any one of the front port with the FTP Server and it won't connect. I can ping the 10.0.254.3 interface as well as ssh from the FTP server.

sw0# show interface Management
interface Management 1/0
ip address "static 10.0.254.3/24"
ip gateway-address 0.0.0.0
ipv6 address [ ]
ipv6 gateways [ ]
line-speed actual "1000baseT, Duplex: Full"
line-speed configured Auto
oper-status up

I setup the management port as stated in the Administrator Guide on pg 69.

I managed a few VDX6730, they are fine. Read this, it seems to have what you're after:

How to backup running config in VDX

Confirmed working:

copy running-config ftp://anonymous:pass@10.1.3.27//upload/brocade.cfg
(can use anything for password)

The server is running Rocky Linux 8 using vsftpd: The config must be tweaked a bit so it accepts anonymous user to write files.

Has anyone done a microcode update on a VDX6470T? I'm kind of curious about the process and how long it takes to do.

what do you mean under "microcode update"?
maybe psu and bootrom updated during normal update procedure. up to 30 minutes with reload (that takes 12 minutes)

understood. never had such issue with 7.2 and 7.4.

probably less then full NOS upgrade cause it just write small peace of code to "asic". and full switch reload.

I'm running 7.4.1f but it looks like it doesn't do microcode updates at the same time. I'm hoping there is just a prompt on the console that I can't see remotely that needs some input.

@fohdeesha, any chance you're able to help out with a QSFP license for one of these? Not sure how that works...

Also, is it possible to license the additional 24 10gb ports?

Lastly, any help on firmware? The switch I've got is currently running 5.0.1b.

Need a little help. Trying to flash the vdx 6740T NOS v7.4.1f back down to NOS v7.3.x so I can bring it back to standalone mode, but I keep getting a loop

it went over like 4x keeps looping, anyone know why?

Actually, can I still manage the switch by itself in Logic Chassis mode? Is there any benefits or problems not going back to VCS Rbridge mode? We plan to just deploy this in another location as a "normal" L2 Switch

There is no problem to use Logic Chassis as "normal" switch: you don`t pay for it by performance.
especially when this is the Only one variant (since 7 release if I remember).

of course you can try to use netinstall flash to make clean install any version of NOS (don`t forget to save license keys)

I just ended up default factory reset and install the licenses and redid all the dpod. still not sure why the update kept going into a loop either. But it's acting just like any other switch. I am not even sure why there is a VCS mode and Logical Chassis mode.

reset factory can`t help you if firmware upgrade process isn`t ended. only netinstall will format CF-card and copy new filesystem of provided version.

"show firmwaredownloadstatus" confirm that previous update finished?

"show version" in case of Logical chassis will show 2 partitions.
in case of One system should try to update|make second. (when you upgrade from 6 to 7 release and enable logical chassis)

It didn't downgrade. Still on 7.4.1f, but mentioned by another user, if I can still work with the switch in logical chassis mode as a stand-alone unit, then I am not going to worry about downgrading the firmware.

you can!
logical chassis do nothing for you.
"Network OS 7.1 supports logical chassis cluster (LC) mode only"
in own cases have a lot of customers with only one switch per rack, of course with last firmware release.

Hello. I received this device. He found himself in a cyclical reboot. I flashed it using netinstall using these instructions. The switch has started and the ports are not working:
10G - 30, 32, 46, 48
40G - 49, 50, 51, 52
As I understand it, it's a matter of licenses.

sw0# show license

rbridge-id: 1
No entries available for rbridge-id 1
sw0# show license all
The cluster has 1 switches

I’m new to such devices and don’t quite understand what these licenses are and where to get them. I would be very grateful for a clear explanation)

at least switch doesn`t have additional licenses.
default config disables ports (config, interface TenGigabyte.. 1/0/1-48, switchport)
(config, dpod 1/0/1 reserve)

VDX6740 SFP+ model have basic 24 active ports 10G, and no one 40G.
show dpod.

but it`s solvable. (pm only)
