If you mean out of the box support than I would go with amd cards. (Newer amd drivers are based on open source projects, while nvidia releases only their proprietary driver for linux).

hmmm anyone got a guide on getting AMD drivers installed on a headless CentOS 7.3 server with elrepo Kernel 4.10.1 mainline ? Seems I can get AMD drivers and kernel module loaded on CentOS 7.3 default 3.10.x Kernels but they don't like Kernel 4.10.1 from elrepo yum repo heh. Using Kernel 4.10.1 so can use Docker with overlay2 :)

For linux, nvidia all the way. The driver support is and has always been way better. The GTX 10XX series even works on FreeBSD.

I find AMD fine under linux. and even better I find AMDGPU (non-pro) also quite suitable for all my gaming needs. install latest kernel and good to go.
