Gold 6140 18c seems to be fairly reasonably priced now at $40 each. Wondering if there are some cheap single or dual cpu MB i can get? Woud like it to have 6 channel ram of course.
what is the $250 one?Outside of proprietary? Depends on what your definition of inexpensive is. They're still generally in the $250-400 range on the secondary market.
proprietary if you are a DIY men.Wondering if there are some cheap single or dual cpu MB i can get?
Where's the PCie slots?proprietary if you are a DIY men.
intel s2600BP (with adapter work with ATX PSU) got two for under $99usd each.

Def quite a lot of compromise with only 4 dimm slots per cpu ;(. And i am not seeing a whole lot for less than $450 ;(. guess my experiment with AVX-512 will have to wait a bit longer ;(...It comes with a pile of compromises, but the X11DPL can occasionally be had cheap, I got one for $200 and periodically see 1U systems with that board and some Xeon Bronze CPUs installed on ebay that go for under $250 including shipping.
HP Z6 G4 is only 1 cpu WS, cheapest on ebay right now is about $250 - 300. The X11 MB is a dual socket MB which is what i want. Also, HP may not allow usage of OEM cpu, etc. And their WS doesn't use standardized psu either. At least the supermicro board use a reg psuHp z6 g4
don’t bother buying a naked motherboard; you need adapters for fans, front panel, power supply, etc.. but if you buy a complete barebones or a low-end working unit they’re a great deal.
as long as you don’t need things like ipmi or the ability to edit “server class” bios settings.
I still need to go have a mess around with changing hidden bios settings with ru.efi
also supermicro X11 don't support OEM out of the box (except x11dpu) but can be modded. Also, HP may not allow usage of OEM cpu, etc
