are you talking about the 4Tb ECO or the PRO drives? I would imagine the ECO drives to become quite warm as they have a ton of chips.Performance on these drives seem decent but IMHO they run a bit hot. Have some S3700s chugging along at 37 C max while these are at 40/41 C.
Kinda high for SATA drives.
PRO drives and that's my idle temps. Running badblocks saw north of 47 C and they were in some icydock bays.
I'm in for some as well. Did you guys notice that these are SED capable as well? That's damn good for onboard SED.

For those installing these drives in 3.5" chassis I've got nothing but good things to say about these tray converters: US $8.66 |NEW SAS Serial SCSI SATA HDD Server Tray Caddy 654540 001 SAS Adapter Tray for HP 2.5 to 3.5 Hard Drive Server Bracket Caddy-in Computer Cables & Connectors from Computer & Office on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group seem to be great quality and worked in any chassis I've thrown them in so far (Supermicro CSE846 / DL360 / R720). They are cheapest if your order them in pairs (2 pieces have the lower price/piece).
I've bought cheaper ones before where some of the SMD components fell off before using them, and others where the SATA connector destroyed connections because it had a broken internal clip but these have been absolutely amazing.

I prefer cheaper solutions without any additional connectors/components. That’s just an added layer for possible failure.

The SuperMicro ones are more expensive and neither are universal across different vendors. I understand the argument for avoiding extra components but to each their own I guess.
