I hope it’s helpful, @Zeevy... I was burned by a few of these, obviously.

One thing I forgot to mention... Make sure you carefully pre-plan your POE switch (or injector) locations. I recently re-did a couple that “grew” over time, and it vastly simplified the cabling. (color coding and cable labels are a huge help if the cams you are monitoring are not already installed!)

Hello everyone. Thank you all for your advice so far.

I bought a DL380 G9 with a E5-2697 v3 CPU with 16gb ram. I installed Ubuntu 18.04 and have Zoneminder running with two cameras and am continuing to test it as times goes. It's running fairly well so far.

My real issue is getting the Ubiquiti (LAP-120-US) LiteAP AC 5GHz airMax Sector AP 120 Degree set up and working. Anytime I plug the LAP-120-US into the PoE switch it kills the internet for all devices. I have no idea how these are connected and it's driving me crazy.

When I follow the instructions here (https://dl.ubnt.com/guides/LiteAP_ac/LiteAP_AC_QSG.pdf), and connect it to the switch and PoE power adapter, it kills the internet on everything as mentioned, and it does not allow me to connect to https://192.168.1.20 to get to airOS for the initial set up. Any ideas?

There's probably an IP address conflict. What IP range is the existing network?

As a side note: guys, don't you think @Zeevy is in a bit over his head here? I have been reading his struggles and your honest attempts to help him, but without a broader understanding of networking concepts, PoE, throughput and finally engineering at scale, it will be a futile attempt? Although recognition for persistence.

Thank you everyone who has helped me so far. I really appreciate it!

@dandanio I agree I am in over my head a bit, but I’m learning more everyday. We all start somewhere.

I was able to get the LAPs connected and working. On to the next step!
