Anyone know of a "cheap" in the EU 10gbe copper switch? even if it is only a switch with 2 10gbe copper uplinks.

Cheapest I have found is a 8 port netgear thing for £450

The absolutely cheapest switch with at least two 10Gbase-T ports is the new Netgear GS110. The 'dumb' variant (GS110MX) costs around 190 Euros, the (web) smart one (GS110EMX) roughly 240 Euros.

Both switches also support NBase-T (2.5Gbps, 5Gbps).

ooooooo thanks, not sure why those two.......well one didnt appear when hunting down multi gigabit switches either

Seems the MX I can get for £163 (€182) and the EMX for £226 (€252) so your prices were pretty good

The ES-16 isn't really a copper switch since it has 12 SFP+ ports. It does have 4 copper ports, but those are pretty much Gbe.

That is not correct, the copper ports actually support 10Gbase-T.

But still, it’s hardly the cheapest 10Gbase-T switch, as asked by the thread starter. For that price, if you’re only interested in RJ45 ports, you can buy a managed 8 port 10Gbase-T switch by Netgear and others.

If you have found the magic to getting them to actually work at 10Gbe then please do tell.

So far what I've gathered is you need to be running the alpha firmware + some super shield CAT6A or CAT7 to get them to function. I've had them work for short periods of time, but after a day, sometimes less, they always revert back to 1Gb.

This is extremely well documented both here and on the UBNT forums.

That seems to be only with intel 10bge chipsets. I have not had any issues with using the copper ports if they are connected to my netgear switch or my asus 10gbe network card which uses an aquantia chipset

Arent a majority of the 10gbe chipsets about intel though? at least the cheap ones I have seen.

Am seeing a few more multi gigabit switches around so might wait a few months and see if more multi gigabit stuff comes out that is going to work nicely for me

Intel NICs are amongst the best there are and actually not cheap (fake ones not included), there are usually more expensive than the average.
