I'm planning a 40gbe (maybe infiniband) network for my homelab. I don't have a dedicated server room and from what I read the 40gbe switches are very loud (Mellanox list some of it's ethernet switches with 70dba).
In different threads on sth people posted about soundproofed enclosures like the...
Frist post here so I thought I would start by helping others.
Ok, so you know the cheap optical QSFP transceivers on eBay, Well it turns out you can use them.
First you need a MPO cable to use, and as a warning, they are not the cheapest things so be very careful when following this guide...
Hello everyone,
What brings me here is a used switch I bought of ebay and is giving me a hard time to boot.
It appears that when the system should become ready to login and running, some errors start to appear on the console:
Mellanox MLNX-OS Switch Management
cmpny-GW login: Apr 17 16:11:22...
So this is really early in a process... i'm not seeking handholding, just kind of thinking out loud with a bit of a wishlist and seeking some feedback and pointers about what I need to learn about before I can progress more. Also making sure I even understand the whole process.
I may be wrong...
Hello, this is my (second) post (first was responding to a help request) because someone on SmallNetBuilder suggested I come on over here because this either is more my style, or may be a necessary part of what I have to do.
My name "Twice Shy" should suggest to you that i've suffered serious...
Thought I would see if anyone was interested in this lab setup before I go to eBay with it.

Hi fellows,
Are all Infiniband CX4 cables work the same (support both 10Gb SDR and 20Gb DDR rate)?
Or actually there are some kind of standards only some CX4 cables can do 20Gb DDR?
Same question goes for 40Gb QDR and 56Gb FDR QSFP cables.
Last year, before we decided to go to 40GbE, I bought all the stuff to set up a 20Gb Infiniband network. Since we're not using it, here's your chance to get the whole setup in one fell swoop. We got as far as powering on the switch, which seems to work fine, but never actually got the network...
Longtime lurker here: I recently picked up 80 W.L. Gore QDR Infiniband cables and I only have a need for 8 of them. Looking to sell the remaining 72.

After some work I was able to get my infinband cards setup. This is a switchless setup. OpenSM on the linux hosts appears to be working correctly. I have configured the IPs on both systems (win10/Fedora23) to 10.10.10.0/24. Firmware was upgraded to the latest I could find. On both systems...
I am looking to direct connect (no switch, but with opensm on a Fedora system) 2 PCs 1 windows 10 system and a Fedora box together via IB. I have managed to get the cards up and running. OpenSM is setup on the Fedora system. Below is the log from the OpenSM log. On the Windows 10 side the...
Hello all,
I'm interested in setting up an Infiniband network. While I know there are significant hurdles, I'm just so enamored by the possibilities.
I'm just getting around to understanding the basics so I'm hoping STH will be kind. I know Infiniband is in decline and 10gbe is probably a...
