  • It seems you have 3PAR experience. I hope you could help me. I am looking at a 3PAR unit, it has a 756484-001 controller with a 10Gb SFPt. What kind of transceiver to convert this to an RJ45? Do generic SFPs work in the HP? I thought SFP was for 1Gb-5Gb and SFP+ for 10Gb. The 8000 is end of life. Is the SW still available?

Most spares (if you buy P00520-001) come locked because it is assumed you buy them as a spare and run a rescue on them.
If you absolutely still need a 3Par controller I can recommend Thomas Tech. They are highly specialized with 3Par.

Thanks for taking the time to explain all this. The more I learn about HP hardware and the lockouts, the more I think to stay clear. I have played with Dell, Intel, HP, and Supermicro servers. Each has some quirks, but HP seems the most difficult to deal with.

Most brands have their own way of sucking money out of you. I think IBM's storwize series is decently good. You can always get inside, only the firmware is behind a paywall. For servers most brands want you to pay for "advanced" IPMI functions.
