Yes. you'll have to see if they can be passed through at a port level, but I know you could create separate virtual switches, as I do this at home. I don't think it matters which ones you use.If my intel server already has 4 physical LAN ports, can I use/passthrough 2 of them for Pfsense?
Which ones? the 2 that has WOL or the 2 without?
ok, don't passthrough. Just vnics and vswitches.
This is way over my head. Is there a step by step guide I can read to do this?
Well the Atom probably won't be able to handle openvpn at any reasonable speed.I have a 50/5 TWC internet and a small home network < 10 hosts & servers. I decided to take a plunge on pfSense and go the HW route.
Here is what I'm getting
HP T5740 TC THIN CLIENT 1.66GHZ 1GB RAM HSTNC-006-TC VU899AA#ABA + Power Adapter
Auto accepted $20 offer. They have plenty more if anyone is looking for can start even lower.
Esxpansion
New HP T5740 Thin Client AZ551AA PCI Riser Express Expansion Module - 581264-002
Dual port Intel gig NIC
HP NC360T PCI-e Dual Port Intel Gigabit Ethernet NIC 412648-B21 412651-001
Eventually I plan on using OpenVPN etc and will need to add more RAM. Please let me know I missed any required items
