Its a curious design. 82599ES is older 10Gbe and fairly power hungry compared to new chipsets. It does look like they have active cooling on it but not sure how loud that little fan will be. The M.2 slot is x1 only. Also not sure what value 6x SATA ports are on a closed little box with no place to put a SATA drive.

But it does look potentially interesting. And the price is not terrible for a small form factor box with 10Gbe.

10th gen u-series are old when most powerful CPUs on CWWK's boards in 2022-2023 are using 12th gen (u-series, i3-n305, etc) and ryzen 5th gen u-series.

Has anyone ordered these yet? I just saw them on Topton. They're not too expensive $340-$450 depending on the ports and the CPU.

There seems to be using older Intel chips
  1. Intel Core i3-8145U
  2. Intel Core i5-10210U
  3. Intel Core i7-10510U
There is a base motherboard with 6x SATA ports and then they've got an internal PCIe riser with a 2-port Intel 10G NIC or a 4-port 2.5G NIC. The 2.5G is more expensive.

Does anyone have these yet? Or maybe it's more like @Patrick are you testing yet?

Oh, that looks cool. Good find @MiniKnight

I just ordered both a 10GbE SFP+ and a 2.5GbE only version. It says July 4 delivery via DHL so I am going to guess that is mid-July at the earliest.

I am not sure I like the fan though.

They are interesting - and also odd. The only NVMe is an m.2 x1 slot. And they boast "6x SATA3" ports, but there is absolutely no way to mount a SATA drive or even export the cables without heavily modding the case.

Just odd...

I have seen this already somewhere, just where? Edit: found it, there is already a thread about it.
Let's not talk about the weird design, m.2 x1 and 6 SATA ports in this case, who designs such a unit

@Patrick hoping for your review soon. Will be interested how it performs on 10G lines with OPNsense, preferably with PPPoE. Would be interesting if the unit can handle this.

This one says it is no longer available. Interesting

@Mike9474593 It looks like that is not available. It is just so strange.
Well, I mean it's aliexpress, sometimes the sellers are just weird over there...
Thousand stores with slightly different names but the same seller, offers that just disappear and reappear a few days later, same units with very different prices, hefty price increases just to name a few. Probably that's just the fun of aliexpress

Back in stock here. I'd be interested in seeing a 10G routing comparison between this and the R86s. The i7-10510U is a bit faster than the N6005, but unless you need the extra 2.5G port or upgradable RAM the R86s seems like a better package overall.

R86S-N is now available on AliExpress. Price seems to be about $100 over the comparable 11th gen (-U) version.

Yeah, the R86S-N Series looks VERY interesting, enough 2.5G ports to cover WAN, AP & Mgmt, 2x 10G ports to form your backbone and probably just enough power for the Firewall (should be capable of Deep Packet Inspection). Also, @Occamsrazor it looks like it might have an NVMe M.2 AND a 'Wi-Fi' M.2. I'd guess the NVMe could be 3.0 x4 (or could be 3.0 x1) & the Wi-Fi has to be 3.0 x1.

Would LOVE to see a 32Gb version for more virtualisation capacity, but damn. You could even throw an M.2 to SATA connector and have a little NAS/Firewall/Router all in one box (obviously the drives would be external).

David@Gowin is on the reddit group asking about the appeal of a rackmount version with 32GB.

I mean, I'd prefer the small form factor, but don't really care too much for the form factor. But a 32Gb version would be great.
