I've installed zentyal 3.0 as a PDC Domain Controller. which is based on samba 4

domain name is TEST.INT

windows computers are able to join this domain

But i am having a real tough time joining a openindiana(solaris) server to this domain. i followed these guides

https://blogs.oracle.com/timthomas/entry/configuring_the_opensolaris_cifs_server

http://blog.scottlowe.org/2006/08/15/solaris-10-and-active-directory-integration/

but am unsuccessful.

upon issuing the command

Code:
smbadm join -u aduser TEST.INT
i get the following error

joining TEST.INT....this may take a minute...

failed to join TEST.INT (UNSUCCESSFUL)

on looking at the logs..i see

Code:
smbns_ksetpwd:KPASSWD protocol exchange failed (message stream modified)
Failed to set machine password.
smbd: failed joining TEST.INT(UNSUCCESSFUL)
any ideas? what i am doing wrong..

You can try different auth-levels (2..4), prior jthe join command like
sharectl set -p lmauth_level=3 smb

http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23824_01/html/821-1462/sharectl-1m.html
If you use napp-it, you can select this in the services-smb-active directory menu

You need also a working smb share prior the join command
(helps with Windows AD)
Thanks for your reply

I have already tried the auth levels from 2 to 4 but it didnot work
I should have mentioned that.
You are saying that a samba share on the zentyal server
That openidiana server can connect and mount?

No, you need to create a SMB share on OI first (or SMB is disabled).

yes i have a SMB share ready and i can browse it from other machines.and i have checked that my cifs/smb service is running.
do you think it may be because zentyal uses samba 4.
i am planning to go back and install zentyal 2.2 which uses samba 3 to check if that works.

Still no luck
i tried zentyal 2.2 but it refuses to join
so i gain got back to zentyal 3.0. installed napp-it on the openindiana box after some retries it joined the domain but i cannot access it from windows machines.
when i double click the openindiana server on windows explorer i get a error saying i donot have the permission for this.
however i can browse the server with its ip from a non-domain machine.
what may be going on
