xeon W3530 upgrade

I have a dell workstation with a W3530 and I would like to see if there is a good upgrade for this cpu.

For server (more cores needed)? For home/desktop/workstation duty (fewer/faster cores liekly better)?

It's old, but there are some options.

This workstation is used for gaming(more cpu based games) and vms. I was hoping to find a $100 cpu to upgrade this system. If no options are out there , I am fine with saying with what I have.

What motherboard part # ?

I am not sure of the mobo part number(real pain in the ass to get the system out) but the computer is a Precision T3500. Here is the config as shipped by dell.

I'm not 100% but the x56xx series may work in that setup with a upgraded bios and if it has enough cooling.

x5680 would be 6 cores with higher base clock, and higher turbo.
