I hate these threads, because i don't need a CPU like this, but the intel pmem stuff is so nice, to use as ZIL/L2ARC/special vdev with ZFS.. god damnit.

Anyways, reading @RolloZ170 's reply in one of the other related threads, he lists 4 motherboards that are compatible with this CPU straight out of the box:

the following run 8124M/8259L/8259CL out of the box.
ASRock EPC621D8A
ASRock EP2C621D12 WS
Gigabyte MU71-SU0
Gigabyte MD71-HB0
So i did some googling just to punish myself even more, and found there's a ebay seller in France, that lists the single socket Gigabyte
MU71-SU0 for 270 EUR + 50 EUR shipping.

Together with the CPU's in this deal, that would mean you could get 2x Xeon Platinum 8259CL for 210 EUR + 30 EUR shipping = 240 EUR
And 2x Gigabyte MU71-SU0 for 580 540 EUR + 50 EUR shipping = 590 EUR, or a combined total of 870 830 EUR.. That seems like a great deal no?

edit fixed a math error lol..
edit2 damnit, fixed math error again lol, should be right now

The ASRock EP2C621D12 WS has the c621 chipset, The Gigabyte MU71-SU0 & MD71-HB0 are both c622 chipset. MD71-HB0 is c622. What is the difference? There is no mention of pmem support for the ASRock, so my guess is that c621 does not support pmem?

the Dual socket ASRock, and both gigabytes are missing the 8259cl from the CPU support list, but i think i saw a gigabyte including that CPU for sale on ebay US, so i assume they all support it, like @RolloZ170 says.

edit: Err, the dual socket Gigabyte is c622, single socket is c621..
edit2: only difference i find is "PCIe* Uplink": Intel product specifications

edit3: "PCIe Uplink is an option to use additional PCIe lanes to the PCH, dedicated to storage bandwidth."

This post turned into a mess.. sorry

I just fell victim to pmem trap myself. Still haven’t had a chance to play with it but am going to run only a single 8gb stick of ram to hobble the system as much as possible and see what VM performance is like when essentially all active memory is uncached.

why do I need 2tb of optane pmem? Why do you need a new purse or a new car or an AR-15 or a vacation home? I need it so I can have it. I’m such a consumer

Why do you need Optane or MLC flash drives with PLP and firmware fixes? Because durability and reliability...

I would argue the firmware fixes are more important for reliability than the flash type, flash wear is predictable but random nonsense like "drive stops running after 0x8000 hours" is not.

c622 supports more uplink lanes (x8) (i.e. for 10G NIC or M.2 connected to PCH)
if you look at some c62x board, the 10G one have c622 and the non 10G have c621.
examples:
SM X11DPi-N - C621
SM X11DPi-NT - C622 (T=10G)

ASUS Z11PA-U12 - C621
ASUS Z11PA-U12/10G - C622

C621 PCIe uplink x1
C622 PCIe uplink x8
C624 PCIe uplink x16

I would only need one of the CPU, does anyone want to split with me? :p
I feel sick. I'm having trouble sleeping. I'm thinking about this CPU plus the Gigabyte MU71-SU0. The problem is i don't need it. I have a Z10PA-D8 with 2x E5-2680v4. It's rock stable, and does what i need. But still this is so tempting, populating it it 256GB DDR4 + 4x 256GB pmem100's, and run VM's, zil, l2arc and special vdev's in namespaces on the pmem...

Where do you live? I skimmed your posts and could be ready to trust you for a shared buy. $265 = 240 EUR / 2 = 120 EUR. That's a good price for this CPU. I'm in Finland. Would you be interested in a shared buy? Presumably one would have to buy two, then ship one forward..

i could get a 7820 barebone for 320 EUR, afaik that would be an unbeatable price for complete system incl. PSU, case, fans and mobo to run these CPU's, with @RolloZ170 's mods.

Could anyone with experience with the 7820 say how loud it would get going full tilt with 2x 8259's?
Looking at the RAM slot's i'm assuming i could run it with 4x256GB pmem100 modules, + 8x 32GB DDR4 modules?

So a Dell 7820 + 2x 8259's = 530 EUR without shipping, that's a decent price right? (assuming i'm able to mod it using the guide)

Ignore, totally dumb and ignorant post. 7820's can't run 48 scalable gen2 cores with stock cooling, the second CPU slot is like 350 EUR, etc etc, dumb post, dumb idea. Thx to those who set me straight.
