Hello, I'm looking for outer rails for my 846 - I believe part number MCP-290-00053-0N, but I just need the outer rails.

Yeah, the prices on eBay aren't any better than Supermicro. I don't need them for another month or so, maybe I'll get lucky with someone wanting to get rid of some here.

Can you use the 2U/3U rails on the 846 (4U)? Just got an 847 myself and it also has inner rails (no outer).

I offered $30 and he countered with $39, which I accepted because I'm not going to quibble. It's funny when some sellers won't negotiate, even though they have the offer enabled for their listing. Thanks @mmo

Yes, absolutely.
MCP-290-00053-0N are more or less identical to MCP-290-00057-0N which are the "official" rails for 4U Servers. The only difference is that you can pull out the MCP-290-00053-0N MUCH farther that the 57 and hence it is not officially approved by Supermicro for fully loaded 4U servers.
I've only got MCP-290-00053-0Ns for all my 2U and greater Supermicro Servers
