Looking for 12 or so drives for a new FreeNAS pool. Trying to spend less than $1000.

If interested, I posted two lots of 12 Drives earlier today in a FS thread, as I am cleaning out my basement (moving to new servers),

$900 - 12 3TB Drives (All Toshiba MG03ACA3 Enterprise Drives)
- All pass smart tests with between 3500 and 17000 hours

$800 - 12 3TB Drives (ST3000DM001/ST3000VN00/WD30EFRX)
- All pass smart tests with between 8500 and 27000 hours

(Actually both lots have an additional drive (same specs) as a back up, for a total of 13 )

Hmm...Newegg deal is interesting indeed. $720 shipped for a dozen. May go that route, but I'm open to other options.

I just updated my drive prices in the other thread, apparently I was looking for to much.

$650 - 12 3TB Drives (All Toshiba MG03ACA3 Enterprise Drives)
- All pass smart tests with between 3500 and 17000 hours
- Note: I will throw in a 13th 3TB drive as a spare.

- All pass smart tests with between 8500 and 27000 hours
- Note: I will throw in a 13th 3TB drive as a spare.

How are those Toshiba drives compared to Hitachi 7K4000? Newegg reviews were mixed with a lot of failures.

I have 12 Western Digital 5400rpm drives for $525 shipped, never used. They're no labeled / no warranty. I will include 2 extra drives for warranty purposes.

I've had good success with the Toshiba Enterprise drives, only 1 failure on any smart test, and that was with a drive that had < 400 hours when it failed.
