For my Z10PE-D16 home vm BI/DI/DW sandbox build. I'd prefer 16x8 or 32x4. Budget is at $500 shipped. Let me know if you can help me out!

I just bought 128gb Hynix DDR4 PC4-19200T (2400MHz) in 16GB 2Rx8 sticks for $90/stick. That was the best I could do on short notice... Just hammer the eBay bulk sellers with low offers until someone bites.

Also desperately waiting for DDR4 to come down in price again.
Had a nice catch of 2x 32GB Samsung M393A4K40BB1-CRC for € 300,- both shipped in march, but can't find anything that is below ca. € 85 / 16GB now :(

A few looks like 4 times as much as the OP wants :)

I also have some 16gb 2133 and 2400, I didn't have a price in mind but probably a little more than 500, also no idea on comparability or listed as works on the OP's board but works for supermicro
....Wish I knew that about 12 hours ago.

That's is some 3rd party stuff and expensive !! $120 / 16gb
726917-B21 it is not, just compatible with that HP part number. They say lifetime warranty but buy real HP ram and have spares for less $$
It would appear to be HMA42GR7MFR4N-TF with a third party sticker on it. It's not as cheap as some of the used stuff floating around, but it's "new" and certainly not on the expensive end of the spectrum at the moment.

I like the idea of being able to end up with all of the same type of ram in my box. I got away with two differently branded types with the same advertised spec in my dual 2670 box and I wouldn't be surprised if I could get away with sets of 4 but I'd rather not push my luck. It's a pain playing resell the ram when you get the wrong kind or it isn't compatible.

Buying 512GB of 32GB sticks is far beyond my wallet on a monthly basis and 512GB on a single server is more than I can imagine requiring for a virtualization server in the lab. I am comfortable with the idea of 256GB's as it would let me run a couple of virtual microsoft networks with all the trimmings and play with federation/skype/exchange/etc but more than that I cannot imagine a use for in my environment on a single lab server.

I would not be worried about mixed dimm brands etc , as long as they are equal. The OEM's for that :)
