Just for fun I am installing Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard with GUI again on the Gigabyte GA-7PESH3 test platform again. I filled it with Mellanox cards and wanted to test something with the dual Intel E5-2697 V2. I wanted to just see how much bandwidth this consumes especially as I have been installing remotely to the datacenter to test Hyper-V out there. Here is the log:

Initial read to get to the Windows Setup - Windows Server 2012 R2 - Language - Time and currency and Keyboard selection screen: 221.949MB
Product key screen: 222.470MB
Select the operating system you want to install: 233.447MB (picking Server w/ GUI)
License Terms 241.807MB
Copying windows files went to 100% without any more transfer
Getting files ready for installation seems to be copying all of the files from the installation media.
... 37% 1.4GB
... 50% 2.081GB
... 92% 3.2GB
... 100% and reboot 3.728GB

The impact may be fairly large with this one if ISPs start charging for bandwidth. Comcast Xfinity already has a "not enforced" 250GB limit on their web page even away from the test markets for bandwidth caps. That means a total of about 67 installations per month. Of course, this test was done over 10 gigabit LAN so WAN traffic may differ.
