Am I right to assume the second Windows 7 goes EOL the used market will get flooded with (once) high-end stuff like X58/X79 boards?

I would be surprised if that was the case.

X58 was introduced in 2008 or so. X79 in 2011.

Generally people who buy this high-end of a system (at the time) are, at most, 3-5 year cycles. Both of those platforms have already hit the secondary market.

Except X58 is basically the eternal platform because of cheap used hexacore Xeons, which also overclock like high holy hell.

Just because its EOL does not mean everybody with Win 7 boxes will run out and buy newer hardware.

Remember there are still Win Xp pc's being used by people.

True that, I installed XP on M6500 to play STALKER SoC last week. That and a Creative sound card with EAX makes the game sound a whole lot better.

I would agree with @Patrick's assessment. I also think that out of all X79 systems still in use today only very small percentage is still being used by the original owners.

Why are you interested in those boards anyway?

Making a SLI/CrossFire machine to run STALKER SoC/CS/CoP in glorious 2560x1600 because I have a WQXGA monitor sitting unsued.

Yes, I know my RX480 can run Call of Chernobyl at max settings with 2560x1600 easily but thats not the point.
