I want to build a super fast home machine that I can play with SQL SERver data on while doing office, youtube etc....
One hunka machine that I can do everything on is the goal.

I have a question about the Supermicro X8DTH-6F motherboard that was reviewed recently on the site.

Does it require a Xeon or will it work well with Core i7 considering the sockets are LGA 1366.

You don't really need a server board to do what you want to do. There's probably boards better suited for taking an i7-975

The Supermicro will work with one (1) i7-9**, but will not work with two because the the desktop CPUs only have a single QPI link, whereas the Xeons have two.

That said i want to echo what odditory stated above. You are going to be wasting money by taking this route if you plan on using it just for this. An X58 setup will give you more processing power than you will probably need. You will run into disk bottlenecks before CPU bottle necks

This particular board uses two Intel 5520 IOPs. Doesn't the dual-IOP configuration require both CPUs to support dual-QCI?

Yes you can run a SINGLE i7 chip, but you cant run two. Your CPU must have dual QPI to support a 2p setup such as a fully loaded X8DTH-6F.
