i'm new on this forum, i have a question:

I have to decide between tree REAL raid controllers (LSI crossflash firmware) form make RAID1 for my Lab Home Server (virtualization system on proxmox 4.0), i found tree interesteng model used on ebay:

1)- IBM M1015 (more cheap but no cache no bbu) performance??
2)- IBM M5015 but without BBU (with 512mb cache) cheap
3)- IBM M5014 but without BBU (with 256mb cache) cheap

Some pepole not have recommended the 5014 model (same 5015 but 1/2 memory cache)
Does anyone know if I can still enable the cache on the model 2) without BBU???

some performance on your system??

or is sufficient a M1015 (no cache no bbu) crossflash in IR MODE?

N.B: in the lab home server have UPS system and for now no bbu needed (i think...)

tnks

5015 or 5014.. Or newer that based on your budget

I am using5014 with lsi firmware that configured as raid 1
You can force cache without using bbu. The firmware will give you warning on corruption when power disconnect immediately while doing writing.

1015 raid 1 is a laugh!!!!!!!/ slow and slow.
You need real hw raid with cache memory.

I have proxmox 3.4 raided 2 ssd and 2 wd black..
Performance on raided 1 ssd is good.
Hw raid is 5014. I did not want to buy . another raid card and stick with 5014.

Make sure you are adding 40mm fan on raid card

i found 5014 e 5015 at the same price...
5015! :)

a fan? controller have heat sink
Meant for server chassis airflow.
If you are actually going to be hammering the controllers they may need active cooling depending on your chassis airflow.

you flash only firmware or all board ? (SBR for speed boot)
No speed boot..by replacing sbr

I do not remember,if flashed sbr or not..

I think. You are good with IBM firmware .

You have to make sure on your i bm firmware. Cache can be enable without bbu.

Do not forget ups.. Since loding power during writing can cause corruption...
