My goal is to connect up 10 internal SATA (III/6.0) drives to a motherboard.
I do not want hardware RAID (I'm using something different).
This will be for a home file/media/cloud server.

I'm hoping there's some sort of expansion card to install in a motherboard slot. I don't know what it is called, and I may not need most of the features being offered.

I'm considering a total mother board solution similar to ASRock Z87 Extreme6 ($160), but I want motherboard independence and choice. Maybe something SFF.

Options?
Choices?
Considerations?

Thanks,
Jake

The arse end of the planet
HBA = Host Bus Adapter

Something like the famous IBM M1015 with IT firmware. Been covered to death in here and rest of the forum world. It will hold 8 drives at full speed or can be used with an expander for up to 64 per card.
