As of now i am stuck cant downgrade back the bios to v2.0b du to a FID string error in IPMI menu and with SUM there is error because cant downgrade ME for security reasons. Will probably will get back a it a other time but with the moded bios 4.0 and both 8124M and 8259CL X11SPM-TF will not post but with my ES chip I see the super micro screen but get stuck at PEI--CPU initiatlization B7. The ram I am using worked on v2.0 and only have one in Dimm A1 for now. X11SPM+IPMI.png

for my debugging do you think 8124M would work with X11SPM and bios 3.9 or 4 so I can try swapping between them (8124M and 8259CL) for debug?
have you done the VRM mod yet ? both 8124M&8259CL are TDC=255A.
with VRM mod and original BIOS 4.0 you get POST but error TDP is too high and reboot.
to see the new BIOS version in IPMI you need a successfull POST cycle.

I have modified the bios per your instruction. But have not connected a MCP2221a or EVC2SX yet. Reading other post I now understand the requirement for a valid post for bios version to update in IPMI first page. Running the update via IPMI seem to show that I have the moded v3.9 installed but via SUM it displays the prior BIOS that got a valid post I belive.

you need

Adafriut MCP2221a (with my c# CLI app)

or ElmorLabs EVC2SX/EVC2SE
(instructions are on page 1)
pls find out if that headers are connected to the MP2955A's (multimeter) SDA,SCL and which is ground pin.
SDA could be in serial with a 25ohm resistor.

you need that first. update BIOS can be done without working CPU with IPMI.
First thing again thanks Rollo for all the work you put into this

Sorry for the slow follow up but was waiting to receive my MCP2221a and also some time to play with this.

So basically my X11SPM-TF (moded 3.9bios) will also post and boot with the 8259CL. But compared to the numbers I posted before having it installed into my EPC621D8A when it is runnin gin the X11SPM performance is mutch lower? So i need to play more with the bios setting most porbably. And also valide that my inspecter setting are holding using this to runsimulation so dont really need protection for thing that are more VM related i think

check package power while Cinebench run, supermicro's default settings follow intels rules (max 210W for the 8259CL)
try set PL1 time window to max. value. this value can be higher in the EPC621D8A.

something is wrong: on YOUR X11SPM-TF the 8259CL is detected with 2 Ghz (cinebenchr20) , should be 2,5 Ghz.

Do not use Bios 'Performance' option. It just kills performance. Work with P- and C-states only.

Thanks are you familiar with the menue in the 3.9 bios? Most setting seem not available unless you put in in custum mode and seem ti only drop performance even lower then auto/default mode

but higher cbr20 score then ? clear cmos.
higher then the original yes but not higher then the one i managed with other bios config change and CBR20 saying 2ghz (8610 score) in the same screencap.

You updated you bios guide to 3.9/4.0 for 3.1 do you have a modded bios guide or file?

Also for the 2221a making sure for X11SPM-TF only need to run one command
MCP2221a_iccmax_FF.exe -MP2955A 20 REM X11SPM/X11DPi first

3.1 does NOT block TDP

MCP2221a_iccmax_FF.exe -MP2955A 20 REM X11SPM/X11DPi first
omg: REM = remark
use only
"MCP2221a_iccmax_FF.exe -MP2955A 20"
but the 8259CL is working so the modd is done.

try HWinfo and see the clocks and package power (sensors)
