Hello my dudes. I'll soon try this mod on a T7920 to get a pair of 8272CL's running, just waiting for some dupont wires.

Some questions before I do:

1) Is a specific BIOS recommended for the T7820/T7920, or does it matter?
2) Will a BIOS update revert this mod, or cause any trouble?
3) Has anyone tried 240W xeons on the T7820/T7920, like the 8275CL? I suspect you would see some thermal issues on the T7820, but maybe even the T7920 would have trouble without increasing minimum fan speed substantially?

should support 2nd gen

no, it is permanent.

8175M(240W) was fine. VRM is 6+1 more than enough. dual 240W CPU makes no sense, not enough place for cooler(except Water)

you should modify the cooling system to match 240W of course, exspecialy the 8275CL is a heater, the second CPU gets the hot Air of the first, imho only doable with Water.

Thanks for your thoughts, Rollo. The cooler on the T7920 (or single-socket T7820) is a lot larger than the mini-cooler on the dual socket T7820. I doubt the mini cooler could handle 240W TDP with a load. Either way, I just remembered that the T7920 sits the fan directly between the heat sinks, so there's basically no room to add some kind of baffle to direct air around (like you could on the T7910 if you wanted to). Have you ever seen anyone water cool the T7820 or T7920? You don't have much room in the chassis, let alone a place to mount a radiator.

use this method,X11dai-N is successful boot with 8124M, MCP2111A is cheaper than EVC2SE

I need help. I've read through all 6 pages about 10 times, but for the life of me can not figure out how to update my VRMs.
I've executed this with 1 CPU installed & without and with power on and off (still plugged in). I've also tried a bus scan (from 10 to 7F), but can never detect the VRMs. What am I doing wrong? Motherboard is a Supermicro X11DPU

MCP2221a_iccmax_FF.exe -PXE1610C 50
MCP2221a_iccmax_FF.exe -PXE1610C 52

your connection to the JVRM1/2 ? why 3 cables ? black ground comes to some ground on USB header i.e. not there.

check what VRM controllers are used on it. there are many X11DPUs like
X11DPU-XXL, X11DPU-Z, X11DPU-G6 (nutanix), X11DPU-Z+

pin 3 on the JVRM1 or JVRM2 header is not a ground?

Its a PXE1610CDN

The board is a 11DPU rev 1.10

no,
pin1 = SCL ->BMC
pin2 = SCL from VRM
pin3 = SCL ->PCH
I got it to work! Thank you so much @RolloZ170.
I used the ground (pin 2) from the JNVI2C1 header, plugged in the MCP2111A to my computer, and then plugged in 1 power supply to the system.
I've attached 2 pictures that show how to make the connection is case anyone else is struggling to find a ground.

It turns out I didn't actually need to do anything as both my motherboard VRMs are already configured for 255A.
Now I just need to go buy some new CPUs. I want to go with the Platinum 8275cl

then you have a X11DPU for OEM server, they don't need to be modded.

there are many other ground pins. just search the manual:
JTPM1 pin 6 = Ground
T-SGPIO3 pin 3 + 6 = Ground

propper f...k board :cool::cool::cool::cool:

instruction

1 - Need update bios for new version , build date 03/21/2023 (new cpu microcode , new microcode of ram controller) , if without update - you will see message - "memory error" , system wont start.

2 - connector J2J2 / smbus. (1-SDA/2-GND/3-SCL)

3 - MCP2221a_iccmax_FF.exe -PXE1610C 60
4 - MCP2221a_iccmax_FF.exe -PXE1610C 62

fully forks
Hi,

I have a S2600STBR and S2600ST motherboards.

(a) Do we need insert any new microcodes? or just bios update is enough?
(b) Any diagram for connecting the connector J2J2 / smbus.?

Please advise.

just BIOS to support 2nd Gen

is already here
S26000ST
power the board with supported CPUs first, the VRMs addresses are:
address 1st PXE1610C 7bit 60h
address 2nd PXE1610C 7bit 62h
JVRM_J2J2.jpg
the 3pin header is labeled "J2J2"
J2J2 pin[1] = SDA
J2J2 pin(2) = GND
J2J2 pin(3) = SCL

Thank you. Gonna buy and try 8259CL on S2600STBR and S2600BPB and keep you posted. BTW the S2600BPB has a maximum TDP support 165watts and S2600STBR 205watts. Will the 210watt 8259CL work with a simple VRM mod? Wont a bios mod be required? Kindly let me know please.

all regular SKU with 165W to 205W have std. TDC=228A
OEMs with more than 205W have all high TDC=255A and do not work with standard ICC_MAX=228A
so a TDP block in the BIOS is not required.
have Plat.8175M 240W working an S2600WFT ( only VRM mod, NO BIOS mod )
BTW the S2600BPB has a maximum TDP support 165watts
Intel says you can put in higher than 165W in but have to use custom chassis with proper cooling and power delivers.
note the BPB has only 2x 6pin +12V input, not recommended for 2x 8275CL.
and for 8259CL make sure to use strong cables.
205W is working3245QS_S2600BPBsth.jpg
