Anybody using the the 2603 or 2609 for virtualization?

Both cpu's don't have Turbo Boost & Hyper Threading.

I'm trying to get a "feel" for these 2 cpu's, since they're more "affordable"

Any feedback is welcome

From what I've seen, those are popular in applications like ZFS boxes where memory and PCIe lanes are more important.

Then again, if you don't need the CPU, always good to save some cash.

I've got a dual 2620, no complaints so far. Does better than realtime bluray -> 1080p x264 encoding when I peg both processors.

If I was doing a lot of VM's, or my apps were cpu bound, 2609.

If it's just simple storage, 2603. You could probably even transcode some simpler stuff on a 2603 without incident.
