As the server park grows, I've more and more the problem to synchronize passwords and manage network access.
So for easier deployment, I like to try out Univentions corporate server (free Debian based alternative to M$ SBS).

This little projekt should fill the gap until Goldmont/Denverton arrives (as I would have too much spare time...)

Build’s Name: ucs
Operating System/ Storage Platform: Univention Corporate Server
CPU: Intel C2750
Motherboard: Supermicro A1SAi-2750F (retail includes 6 SATA cables)
Chassis: Supermicro SC505-203B (includes I/O-Shield)
Drives:
RAID 1: 2x SSD-DM032-PHI (32GB DOM)
RAID 10: 4x WD10JFCX (WD Red 1TB)
RAM: 4x KVR16LSE11/8HB (Kingston 8GB, DDR3L-1600, CL11, Hynix B-Die)
Add-in Cards: -
Power Supply: Supermicro PWS-203-1H (included in chassis order)
Other Bits:
1x MCP-320-81302-0B (additional fan tray)
1x FAN-0100L4 (additional fan)
2x MCP-220-00044-0N (double 2.5" hdd tray)
1x CBL-CDAT-0597 (4-pin molex -> DOM-power connector)
1x CBL-0082L (4-pin molex -> 2x SATA-Power)

Hardware Notes:

Storage:
Mainboard has only one DOM power connector.
Mainboard has one 4-pin molex port
PSU has two SATA power and two 4-pin molex ports.

DOM occupies neighbor SATA port.
DOM should work on SATA cable.

Don't care about running WD-drives on the SATA II-ports.

Seems I'm too spoiled. There is no onboard-raid.

Software Notes:

Host:
To keep it simple, a basic UCS serves as host.
mdadm will be used during install to configure Raid 1 (DOM) and RAID 10 (Storage)
KVM will be the Hypervisor (Xen or Docker-stuff maybe later)
KVMs default container will be set to RAID 10

I tried univention as just a mailserver for a while, I personally didnt like it at all :)
resource hungry and didnt live up to the hype i got from others online.

But id be curious to know how you find it, is this just for linux authentication or windows systems?

Did you tried the standard UCS mail server or one of the third party ones?
I bet it's less resource hungry than an exchange server.

It's for heterogenous systems.
I've run a testlab on HPs N54L (Host: OpenMediaVault Hypervisor: Virtualbox) for some weeks now (since the 4.1 Release with Samba 4)

I'm primarily interested in the LDAP-functionalities.
So user-management, integration with radius/asterisk and the common admin features.

But I'd also like to evaluate several features (and third-party plugins) just for the fun:
E.g.:
- Dovecot (with DANE and PGP-Integration)
- opsi (WSUS-Replacement)
- jenkins, openproject, SAML IP etc.
- first Docker-steps

Side note on "resource hungry":

I tried to add the openproject feature to my virtualbox image. And got a warning, that there is not enough ram.
"needs 1GB, but only 300MB are free"

This should help to scale the VMs right.

Finally found the time to order some parts for this build.
And then I noticed I forgot the chassis. :S
