Newegg has free shipping and volume discounts on these, so tempting to populate all 8 ports on a spare LSI 2008 I have lying here, would be a great cheap 30TB usable Z2 array...

They are also not in as many states as amazon ;)

I did pick up a pair for a local R1 mirror on a soon-to-be windows 10 box, going to try out ReFS. I prefer these guys over WD's own models, toshiba is just selling from one of the old hitachi plants and it has a good track record. (WD brands their half with HGST, their in-house is doing too much dumb artificial firmware segmenting) Seagate has had far too many bad models in the last 5 years or so for me to even consider.

Spinning rust still sucks and industry wide half-life is ~6 years, never trust a single drive w/o backups.

I know Toshiba 2 and 3TB disks are built using Hitachi's 7K3000 design but I've read that the 4 and 5TB disks are a Toshiba original. Does anyone know how loud the new drives are compared to the old?

Will these drives time out on a 9265-8i?
I'm curious about this as well.

On a side note... B&H just had another round of their $129 5TB USB external drives which are either WD RED or WD GREENS. I just picked up 4 more as the first time around I got all REDs
