Last year I picked up an ASUS PB287Q at Fry's when they had a sale on them. Its beautiful really.
I jumped on that with out to much thought because the price was pretty good, if I remember I paid like $600 for it.
3840 x 2160 is really nice and all but it does make things a tad hard to read for me, yes my vision is not as good as it used to be in my younger years LOL. Stuff like Photoshop work can be stressful for me as the tool tips do not scale and are very tiny and hard for me to see. Also using IPMI on servers makes a small window that is hard to read.

Game wise it also has its draw backs, many games UI's do not scale and become tiny with no way to enlarge them, some do tho. At that screen res you need massive GPU power for some things and the one I am aiming at is Star Citizen. I run 2x Titan Blacks in SLI and they struggle with SC, most how ever play just fine.

After using this for many months I think for me at least a different resolution ratio might work better for me.

The plus side is there is plenty of screen real estate for open windows which I would find hard to give up.

I've had a Monoprice 28" 4k monitor for about a year now. It has only one flaw, I have an old casino game I like to play that will only run at 640 x 480. This monitor won't go down that low. :(

Yes I know. I have that problem with Amiga Forever also, tho it does now allow you to double the screen size which helps.

I was expecting to see a great deal on this thread
Ditto. What we need is a deals section for deals, and then other discussion forums for, yes, you guessed it, discussion.
Maybe I missed it... but who is exactly stopping you from talking about these monitors? From what I can tell no one is, but if the majority of people are using something else then there's not really anything you can do but force us to take a free one from you, and share our opinion. :D :D

With that said I'll take a free one to help further the discussion :)

I like the idea of them but where I am can't usually see too many cheaper monitors. Happy with my apple Thunderbolt Display for now... And will no doubt stay happy so long as we see Apple add thunderbolt to future notebooks.

16:10 is good, I hate looking at 16:9 unless it's for media. 4:3 probably would still be ok, can't really say as don't see any around any more.

What's the normal life of led monitors ? I have a 22" Samsung at work that's probably 5 or 6 years old now and it still seems fine (sharpness and brightness)

I have (well, gave to father in law last year) a 22" Samsung LCD that, if I have done my math right, is 15 years old, has been through multiple moves not in its box, and works well. LED monitors were supposed to be cooler running and have longer life than LCD, which that Samsung is, so I would guess the LED monitors will last 20+...?

The Dell U3415W has been on sale recently for ~$650. I really like mine.
+1. I wasn't totally sold on the ultrawide when I first got it on my personal setup. After using it for awhile, it pains me to go back to mulitple monitors on my work setup.

I love mine, and will buy another 1 or 2 @ $650 each, but I can't find em for that price. Where are you seeing them that cheap?

Keep an eye on slickdeals.net. Dell had them for $675 a couple of weeks ago, and Adorama for $650 just before that.

I was contemplating the Acer G34 (g-sync), but the limited availability and nearly 100% price premium seems hardly worth it. Especially since I dropped ~$2500 into a Display/GPU upgrade this summer and hardly even use it. I think I'm going to stick with the Dell.

Just got my U3415w set up this morning in the office, along with an Ergotron LX mount. I was fairly skeptical of the 21:9 aspect ration when the monitors started appearing ~18 months ago, but this is a nice productivity setup. I am using it to replace a pair of 1980 x 1080 monitors. I really appreciate the increase in vertical pixels, the fact that I don't have to turn my head as much to use all of the screen real-estate, and mostly that I can place a windows in the middle of the display without it bifurcated by bezels.

I also ordered an Ergotron for my 40" 4k panel at home. These adjustable display arms make all the difference in the world.

I'm rocking some 24" Dell 4Ks as my side/flank monitors, really like them!
Still using an HP ZR30w as my center/main screen -- really like it, just wish it was a bit higher-res!! Which reminds me I need to sell/trade the other 2 30s! I tried using 3x30s and I really liked the setup but wow talk about power usage and heat!!!!

I know many people who "work" on their computers 8+ hours per-day and they tried the Korean monitors and after anywhere from 10-15 months they all replaced them with 'branded' screens from reputable companies that had warranties or were 'known' good. It seems the screens "look" great they just don't actually hold up if you use them day-in and day-out.

YMMV

I've had great luck with Dell screens and just replaced all my 2001FPs (on primary systems) in the last 12 months, and my original dell HC 30" was replaced too. The dell 30" I use in my other office, and the smaller dells I now use for rack gear, test bench, my parents have a few in use, etc... still going strong with THOUSANDS (high) of hours... I need to check hours on some, some are visibly dimmer than others due to being 'original' main monitors back in the day. Also, I get the dell monitors when I have a 20-30% off coupon and brings the price VERY LOW. i was shocked to find out I spent almost $600 or something insane on the odl 2001fps, i actually still have my old old old sony 18" flat screen too, still going strong after thousands upon thousands and years of usage.
My 27" Shimian held up great. Got it in March 2013 and it is still running great until end of 2014 it ran like 16 hours a day. Now it is more like 5-8 hours a day.
The only issue I encountered, is that I need to put some airflow on the power brick.

The heat off these monitors can fry an egg. I've noticed that in my office I need to have some sort of air flow whisking the heat off these panels or else things start to warm up noticeably.

Couldn't beat the price though.
