Just wondering from the people with experience here, is there any reason to go with the elite mini 800 G9 over the Z2 Mini G9?
$$$?

I'd have been all over a Z2 Mini G9 if it was anywhere near price of the Elite Mini G9.

I got a new Elite Mini 600 G9 with an i7-12700T for under US$600. Maybe the Z2 Mini G9 is cheap where you live [jealous!], but here in NZ I'd have to pay twice as much.

mostly form factor - these fit 4 to a 1U shelf decently if you're tossing in a homelab rack and have a place to hide the power bricks. but yeah hooking up to a DAS isn't something i was considering with these - more for compute, localized storage, etc. if that's a need- there's a couple options i think. dell 3260, lenovo p360 ultra, and z2 mini g9.

In your upgrade article you mentioned 3d printing a bracket for the Innodisk EGPL-T101.

Did you create/find a bracket that I can download somewhere and print? Or was it more of 'the thing fits, so creating a bracket is feasible'?

I found some 3d bracket models for Flex Port 1 (where I already have the HP 2nd NIC installed), but nothing for Flex Port 2.

Hey, I was actually about to buy a used G9, but asked if the BIOS pw was set, it is!

Thanks for making me aware of this.

Has anyone figured out, if it can be reset in any way?
I am still in talks with the seller, the price is good and it would be perfect.

@Patrick did you figure out any way to reset the BIOS pw?

No experience with these devices. But if you've got a direct EEPROM BIOS Writer, you could probably rewrite the BIOS, it could be the password is stored on another chip, if that's the case, you could maybe rewrite that chip.

I bought one of these (an i7 600) based on the positive review, and a quick check in Ark to make sure it'd do 5k@60Hz over DP. But it's only driving my 5k2k screen at 30Hz or 6bit colour. I tried a bunch of different driver versions & enabling DSC in the registry, but no joy.

Has anyone had luck driving a >4k hi-res display with one of these? Otherwise I guess I'll buy a 10Gbe card & it'll be my new VM host.
So after poking around in the service manuals I figured this out.

The onboard displayport 1.4 ports only do HBR2, so they're only useful for 4k screens.

You need to buy a flex-io v2 displayport option card, which supports HBR3, to drive a 5k screen.

I bought the DP option card for $15 off AliExpress, and I now have 5k2k @ 8 bits @ 60Hz.

Since this is for desktop use, I've used a 2.5Gb USB adapter, which is happily chugging along at full speed. I guess I'll try to sell the 2.5Gb flex-io card.

We put it in the HP Elite Mini 800 G9. Powered it on, and it did not accept RDP connections. Something was amiss so we hooked it up to a monitor. When we installed the 10Gbase-T Flex IO module, it booted and we got stuck at Secure Boot.
"A device added is signed with the Microsoft UEFI CA and can't be used. System administrator must re-enable Microsoft UEFI CA key to boot with this device."
I put a 10base-T flex IO module in my HP Elitedesk mini G9 today. I had no such message. It just worked straight away. I wonder why the difference?

The saga continues?....

Heads up!

I purchased the 10 gig adapter from b&h and bad news. Looks like they changed the heat sink design on it. I'm not seeing anyway to fit this in there without taking a hack saw to the CPU heatsink mounts. The heatsink looks removable but there is a large, tall chip under the rear left side of it...

This is a real bummer. Waited forever to get this from B&H... My quest for 10GB in this G9 continues....
