This is something I am not experiencing with my other 14th gen (a T140).

When Dell took away from us (end-users) the ability to control Fans in iDRAC 3.34.34.34, I hoped they would at least get it right but it appears that they got in wrong (most of the time) with both SUPPORTED and UNSUPPORTED H/W.

I've been experimenting with T640 storage configs in relation with Fan Speed and here what I have gathered so far (I have a few colleagues who also have a T640):

On my T640, (18 x 3.5 Bays), here's the room environment situation:
- Config 1 (initial): 1 x 2Tb Evo 870 (boot) and 2 x 2Tb Evo 860 (data), Fans setttle around 15% PWM.
- Config 2 : 1 x 2Tb Evo 870 (boot) and 1 x 4Tb Evo 870, Fans setttle around 34% PWM.
- Config 3 : 1 x 2Tb Evo 870 (boot) and 1 x 4Tb Evo 860, Fans setttle around 34% PWM.
- Config 4 : 1 x 1Tb Dell-Branded HDD 7.2k SATA, Fans setttle around 34% PWM.
- Config 5 : 1 x 2Tb Evo 870 (boot) and 1 x 7.68Tb HGST SAS MLC SSD with 0% USED endurance (which the iDRAC misinterprets as 0% endurance REMAINING). Fans setttle around 34% PWM.

The -ONLY- config in which my T640 doesn't sound like a Boeing 747 is with UNSUPPORTED 2Tb EVOs (both 860 and 870s work).
I'm posting here for awareness

Dell, could you please at least fix the T640 iDRAC if you don't let us control the Fans?
I guess my next system isn't gonna be a Dell.

How's the T630 running? I've been trying to find one at a decent price, but they are pretty expensive on ebay

The T630 is just very fine. There are two reasons for that:
1) the iDRAC8 on the T630 doesn't try to be 'smart' with storage as much as the iDRAC9 on the T640.
2) we can still control fans on the 13th gens (T630).

So I moved my SAS 12G HGST SSD's to my T630 and T140's but avoided them on the T640.
(both the T630 and T140 don't care but the T640 does.. :( )
