I bought x4 of these SAS3 SSDs.

HP 920gb SAS HSCP0920S5xnNMRI P/N 787177-002 12Gb/s 2.5" | eBay

I sent the offer of $200each expecting to be turned down but the seller approved and I bought them. I didn't have time to think at that price (21 cents a gb). lol

Doing some more research now, it seems they're put in the current HP 3PAR setups. Curious if they'll work in a Supermicro 1U SAS3 backplane server. Just have intentions of putting them in RAID1 (mdadm - x2 per server).

Right off the bat, I'm expecting to reformat them to a usable bit sector. They'll be used in an Ubuntu 16.04 environment.

As the model number indicates, they're previous gen Hitachi Ultrastar SSD1600MR drives, a highly read-intensive focused drive (less than 3DW/D). Of course they have their own custom firmware on them. https://www.hgst.com/sites/default/files/resources/US_SSD1600MR_ds.pdf

They're 1TB drives, so you may see a little extra room on them after formatting to the appropriate sector size.
Thanks! This is what I was looking for!

I'll never go over 1DW per day. Will be used in a docker cluster with 90% read anyways. Greatly appreciate the information!
