Just curious. What will you be using the computer for?
I'm juggling my esxi hosts around, taking my main freenas DS from being on top of a 2x L5630 esxi, to one core on the metal. Just working around the 6-core limit of VMUG. With a proposed purchase of a 2xE5-2697v2 -64GB server chassis for desktop (+ 2x K4000 passed-through for desktop graphics and transcode), i'll have 3 dual-xeon systems and I'll then resell the dell 210ii e3-1240 unit I'm currently using for headroom CPU space.

Interesting set-up. Anyone using the Amd Firepro S lines for GPU pass-thru? If so how is the experience?

Well. I just got a deal on 2 Watchguard M440 appliances on Ebay today. I hope I can install pfSense on these units.

Just received my unit. Have 2x 2603v2 arriving early next week to test the mobo, and plenty of memory from other projects to test.

The unit is VERY clean inside, looks almost unused.

I'm also a little concerned about the power supply not handling higher wattage CPUs with it being just a 400W PSU.

If you want to dump money in to it, you can probably put the power distributor and PSUs from SC813LT in to it. I had a SC825 that had a fixed single low wattage power supply, and getting a 2U power distributor and some spare PSUs, I was able to upgrade it. SuperMicro makes those 54mm PSUs in ratings up to 750 watts.

I'm just thinking now of putting either 2x 2650l v2 or 2630l v2.
For its purpose it will be enough, (main plex server + vCenter.)

I can promise you, even with dual 2697 xeons you will be fine. Most setups with this chassis will probably use less than 250-300watt @ full load.
In all my PC building and whitebox builds, always make sure PSU is never loaded much over 60% so to keep in that efficiency sweet spot.

I think will consider keeping with 2650lv2s for this build though as its on 24/7 and would like to keep the fans from screaming since only a 1U.

Just a heads up for anyone whose bought one of these. The default is to disable the two onboard LAN ports, if a NIC is detected in the PCI slot.

You can change the behaviour in the setup..

Good to know.

How's the noise on these things? I figure they're screamers, but at least the fans aren't counter-rotating.

Has anyone figured out what chassis these are? I'm trying to find rails that fit.
I'm also looking for this. I just sent a message to esiso to see if they know or have compatible rails for sale and possibly the bracket for the harddrive aswell.

Here's a pic of the side with a measuring tape to show size.

Definitely a screamer. At idle it's not terrible, but glad I'll be moving this one to our data center eventually.

I just used adhesive velco to hold the SSD in place.

Mines not much of a screamer but it's not got anything hot in there yet. Wait until it gets the 2x2650lv2s in there

I don't know about other manufacturers, but I have a few Supermicro 1u 116 chassis with the counter rotating fans (56mmx40mm) and they are not THAT bad. In fact I can't hear them from one wall away i.e. they are on the other side of the wall and I'm sitting probably ~8ft from them.
