Hi,

the X10SRi-F doesn't seem to have a designated connector for a CPU fan. It's got FAN1 through FAN5 and FANA.

Where should I connect the CPU fan?

According to https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?resources/supermicro-x9-x10-x11-fan-speed-control.20/ , FAN1 through FAN5 would be connectors for a CPU fan while FANA would be for a case fan. Having 5 fan connectors for a single CPU while having only one connector for case fans seems a bit strange. Maybe the information is incorrect.

Perhaps it doesn't matter, but FANA is too far away from the CPU socket for the cable of the CPU-fan to reach it, and I do have some case fans I could connect as well.

FAN1 through FAN5 are for server chassis, they blow over the whole board, use one of these for CPU.
use FANA for Drives

Thanks everyone!

I'll use the closest connector for the CPU then, which seems to be FAN 1 or FAN2.

This goes into a Chenbro SR10782 with fans behind the hard drives. I think with the current mainboard, I have those fans just connected to 12V so they run at 100%. Would you connect them to the connectors on the mainboard instead or could the hard drives get too hot? The CPU (E5-2697 v3) probably won't get particularly hot, and it'll have a Noctua NH-D9DX i4 3U on it (because this needs to be quiet and reliable while the room can get hot in the summer).

PS: What does FANA actually do? I'm going to install a 10GB copper network card, and I could place a fan to blow on it just in case. But it's not like the board would know about the temperature of the network card, or would it.

For the record, I asked the Supermicro support this question by email, and it took only a little over 3 hours to get a great answer. They even pointed out that there can be specific problems with Noctua fans.

So it seems their customer support is amazingly awesome :)
