Can I use a SuperMicro SAS-826A backplane in a non-SuperMicro server? I know it probably has proprietary connectors but are there adapters available and/or could I DIY something? I’m OK with modding the connectors if there’s a diagram or procedure out there.

None of the connectors on the backplane are proprietary, however, the mounting holes and drive spacing will be specific to certain Supermicro chassis and it is unlikely to physically fit anything else.

exactly what @BlueFox said. but if you're handy and have no problems drilling holes and tapping threads and coming up with your own way to mount the backplane, it can be done. you'll also need to create support for the drive bays to hold the HDDs in the correct positions. that said, it is usually easier to just buy an old Supermicro chassis.
