Hi,
sorry stupid question.

I know that a direct attach backplane (ie TQ style) will do SAS3 ie 12 Gbs.

But what about the -A style backplane?
I have seen those come with SAS2 (SFF-8087) and SAS3 (SFF-8643) depending on the backplane (SAS-xxx-A vs SAS3-xxx-A).
So, will a -A (8087) type do SAS3/12 Gbs despite it using a 6Gbs cable?

Or is the direct attached thing only valid up to SAS2?

I have the 836 a backplane and it works without problems with sas 3.

Supermicro made new backplanes so that people can use "normal" cables with sff-8643 connectors on both ends instead of the "special" cables with sff-8087 on one end and sff-8643 on the other end.

I can confirm that 846A as well as the 216A work without problems with 9341-8i and HUSSM SSDs
