Hi,

I am on a lookout for decent 10k RPM SAS drives for my server. It's a production server and I am trying to decide between Seagate ST1200MM088 and Toshiba AL14SEB120N. I see that both the drives have identical capacity 1.2TB and 10k RPM on 12Gbps SAS interface, however I can't arrive at a conclusion on which drive to opt for. I would be building a RAID-1 array out of 2 of these drives. My 6th sense tells me that I should opt for one of each drive and mix them, however my co-worker says that using non-identical drives in a single RAID array is not a good idea since one slow drive will end up slowing down the entire RAID array.

Which drive do you think would be better?

I thought SAS hdds are dying (the real sas drives, not the nearline sas drives!) so I would rather use ssds like s3500 if it's just for the os.
