I'm studying a next upgrade : will keep current ATX case (Sonata III) and try to setup dual Xeon on it.
Even if SuperMicro has some Dual Xeon ATX boards, i found right now a board model matching more with my needs : Tyan S7002.
I didn't notice this because i searched filtering non ATX boards.
But, i found that SSI CEB form factors only is 1 inch larger/deeper and has all the same mounting holes / io connectors positions.
So i measured the interior of my Sonata III case and a SSI CEB board would enter correctly (unless i'm wrong).
What i'm afraid is mainly about power subjects :
- I read many articles about EPS 12v : resuming, could we consider that a PSU is EPS compliant as soon as it has 8pin connectors ? (Antec EA-500D has 24 + 8 + 4pins).
- Tyan specifies :
- I found that front panel is a "SSI 24pin" one....
Could it be used w/ classic front panel connectors ? What is the minimal cabling required ? PWR/RST ?
- Opting to a progressive upgrade, i planned only using one CPU for the moment and then, upgrade to 2 Xeon replacing, by the way, the PSU.
Indeed, i have read some Patrick's articles and thought that a dual socket board could be used w/ only one 8pin connector if only one CPU is setup :
But i read this :
Unless are they referring to a full dual xeon setup ?
Sorry to ask such questions but i prefer taking care for such a setup.

But i read this :
