When is the update expected?

The new features are now in Illumos.

One can expect them in next OmniOS bloody 151017 and then in next stable 151018
(about april 2016). I suppose OpenIndiana Hipster will also include them soon.

How is SMB2 vs AFP? Any performance boost?

I would expect them to perform quite similar
But beside performance, AFP is EoL Apple switched to SMB from 10.9 up

I actually just upgraded from the old OmniOS LTS r151006 to r151018, and didn't realize SMB is now v2.1
I wonder how this will perform compared to NFS shares. I know that NFS was better than SMB before, but I guess it's time to re-evaluate.
